Is an ISO 9001 and 14001 certification a useful indicator to judge toner quality?
Frequently customers are asking whether an ISO certification is a useful indicator for a toners quality or if it would give a reference at all to the toners functional quality and properties. Though an ISO certification is a useful procedure to assess the standardization of manufacturing procedures, it has to be considered that it is a managing system and not a quality award.
The ISO certification records the procedure in which a product is made, not the quality the product represents. Therefore an ISO certification is not a useful indicator for your customer, how well the toner works, how well it functions and whether or not it is better than another product without an ISO certification.
Please find below the corresponding information from the website of the International Organization for Standardization. ISO is warning of misleading practices regarding the ISO certifications by giving the false impression that the certification is a product standard. In relation to ISO 9001 and 14001 ISO states "They are not products standards": The magical demystifying of ISO 9000 and ISO 14000.
Further the document from ISO clearly points out, that it is the objective of the ISO certification to give the "organizations management and his customers confidence that the organization is in control of the way it does things". This is clearly different from being a product performance standard.
Further ISO states that "neither ISO 9001: 2000 nor ISO 14001: 2004 contains requirements for a specific product. Therefore certifications for these standards should not be presented as product guarantees".
As you can easily see, according to the International Organization for Standardization, the ISO 90001 or 14001certification does not represent any guarantee regarding a product's merits or properties. Especially relating to toner there is no functional guarantee with an ISO 9001 or 14001-certified product.
On the other hand it is always recommendable to use INTEGRAL toner, because this is the best guarantee to have the best possible product for the intended copier and printer applications. INTEGRAL toners have been setting standards for years, by which many other products have to be measured.
INTEGRAL has implemented an ISO 9001: 2000 quality management system and all INTEGRAL toners are manufactured in strict compliance with these standards.
